SPECIAL NEWS FLASH!

This Friday, October 9, we will be having the parking lot resealed and restriped.  This will begin around 9:00 a.m.  Anyone needing to be on campus from 9:00-3:15 must park in the gravel lot or off-campus.  For afternoon pick-up, we will create a loop from the drive through the gravel lot and back to the drive.  Anyone needing to be on campus after 3:15 will need to park off-campus, such as at the Vallerga’s shopping center.  The school offices will close at 3:15 on Friday.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve the campus.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Feast of St. Bruno, Founder of the Carthusians

Dear Parents,

As we wind down the first quarter (believe it or not) in a couple of weeks, with Finals the week of 10/19, please help keep your students focused on their primary vocation—to be students.  I was frequently reminded of that as a student, that my first job was to be a student—not a soccer or baseball player, not a musician (I played the trombone, thank you very much—just not very well), and certainly not a professional TV watcher.  Let’s finish strong!

Mardi Gras Meeting

Sorry for the late notice, but this Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall, there will be a meeting to begin planning for Mardi Gras 2010.  To be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010, Mardi Gras will be a pre-Lenten celebration featuring incredible food, great desserts, fine wine and more.  Last year’s event was a fantastic success, and we want and need to make it even better.  Many details need to be decided.  Please consider if you are able to help with this effort, starting with coming to this meeting on October 8th (this counts toward service hours!).  Wine and desserts will be served.

Open House

We have our first Open House of the school year coming up next Thursday, October 15, from 7:00-8:30 pm.  If you would be willing to act as a Parent Ambassador, please call Bob Greene.  Also, tell any interested families about the Open House and encourage them to attend.  We do need more students, especially at the lower grade levels.

Harvest Fest Fund-a-Need Reminder

Just a reminder:  our Fund-a-Need this year was to raise money for two important projects:  chapel renovation and technology in the classrooms.  Unfortunately, we fell about $10,000 short of our $25,000 goal.  If you were unable to make a donation at the event, or were unable to attend, but would like to contribute toward these projects, please feel free to write a check to the school specifying “Fund-a-Need” in the memo line.  As evidenced by the new playground and playing field, I take very seriously the spending of earmarked money on the project for which it has been raised.  Please consider helping in this way if your means allow.

Development Campaign

Another category of earmarked money is for our Development Campaign.  We need your help to continue making improvements to the people, program and plant of the school, which the Development funds allow us to do.  While the pledging to-date has been great, we do need to ramp up, as a) we still have a ways to go and b) our largest pledger has hit a snag and been delayed in beginning contributing.  I know money is tight, but this campaign is critical to the long-term success of the school.

Item Needed

For the little strip of grass under the overhang, the school is in need of a simple push mower—the human-powered type.  If you have one you can donate, that would be greatly appreciated.  Otherwise, Bob and I will have to cut it with scissors…

Yours in Christ,

Brian

Reminders from the Office:

Regarding Tardiness:

Parents, please remind your students of the procedure when arriving to class after the 7:45am bell.  On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (which are the days of the week we have Mass) they need to sign in at the entrance to the Chapel.  If Mass has already begun, they need to leave their backpacks outside and proceed into the Chapel to attend Mass.  On Tuesdays & Thursdays they need to come up to the office to sign in and they will be given a tardy notice to give to their teacher.  This procedure saves the office staff from hunting down students to find out if they’re absent or not.  Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Lost and Found:

Our lost and found bin is overflowing with brand new fleece sweaters, pants, lunch boxes and shirts.  If you think your kids are missing some clothing items please come to the upstairs office and have a look. Many of the items are unlabelled, making identification difficult-please label all your items.

Appointments during the school day:

We ask that you try not to schedule doctor/dentist appointments during the school day, but when that is not possible we ask that you please send a note with your student requesting that they be excused from school, stating the time and the reason.  This note should be handed to your students’ teacher so they will know when to release them from class.  All students must them come up to the office to be signed out by their parents.  In this way we keep track of where our students are at all times and that they are leaving the campus under parental supervision.

Yearbooks for 2007 – 2008:

The yearbooks are in and they look fantastic.  If you are interested in purchasing one you may do so through the office during school hours. The price of each book is $35.00.  We have a limited supply so please understand that it is first come, first serve.  You may call the office with any questions or to place an order.

Senior Cap & Gown Pictures:

We have some new instructions from our photography company Lifetouch, regarding the ordering of senior cap & gown photos’.  If you sent in money on picture day with a yellow sheet order form, Lifetouch would like you to send in the order form that came with the cap & gown proofs, then mark on the order form that pictures were paid on picture day. (Sept. 3rd) Order forms for pictures need to be sent to the office as soon as possible so that we may send them off to Lifetouch.  Please call the office if you have any questions.

Service Hours:

All families should be reporting volunteer service hours to the school’s email address servicehours@kolbetrinity.org.  Please do not wait until the end of the year as you might forget jobs worked during the school year.  Everyone who worked over the summer or any event since the start of school should report those hours so you get credit for your time.  (Not including Harvest Fest)  The school will be billing for hours not served near the close of this school year.  Service hours can be completed by a number of ways, classroom aids, working with the Parent’s Guild, doing a special project on campus, chaperoning a field trip or helping with your classrooms fundraiser, Hot Lunch, Yard Duty and many others.  Please call the office if you are unsure how you would like to help.

Boys' Soccer and Girls' Volleyball Update

Our girls’ volleyball team is now 2-0 in Northern Pacific Athletic League play after a 25-8, 25-7, 25-14 victory over Auburn Christian last Thursday. Rachel Nelson led Trinity Prep with nine aces and five kills, while Barbara Bakh added seven aces, two kills, and a pair of digs. Anna Arend and Marisa Streett each played another solid match, while freshman Clare Quinn provided quality play for the Crusaders, which got solid contributions up and down its roster. The girls’ volleyball team hosts New Life Christian today (Tuesday, October 6) in a key NPAC match at 5:00 p.m. at Crosswalk Community Church in Napa, before heading up to Fair Oaks to face Freedom Christian on Thursday.

In boys’ soccer action, the Trinity squad continues to produce exciting action on the pitch. George Bakh netted three goals, while Joe Bisconer was solid defensively, and goalkeeper Alex Nelson pushed aside multiple scoring chances in 4-3 defeat to New Life Christian last Friday. That contest came on the heels of a 5-3 loss last Tuesday against Buckingham Charter of Vacaville, a team that dominated the Crusaders a year ago. In that contest, Bakh had a pair of goals (the other Crusader score was an own-goal), while Isaiah Cortright and Joe Thornton were active and effective for Coach Andres Flores and the Crusaders.. The Trinity boys’ soccer team plays just one game this week, as it heads to Elk Grove to face Lutheran on Friday.

Service Hours Opportunity! Looking for Basketball Camera Operator

For many years, Allan Cravalho was kind enough, not to mention talented enough, to film many of our basketball games. This afforded our coaches the luxury of studying game film of opponents and our own team and to apply that information going forward. It also served as another way to document some of the wonderful moments of a particular year and Allan was known to put together highlight tapes at the end of the season.

Both our Girls' Basketball Coach John Streett and Boys' Basketball Coach Jesse West have inquired about finding someone with either the equipment and/or time to film games. There would be no expectation to create highlights or do anything extravagant. This would simply serve as a tool for players and coaches.

Any hours worked in this capacity would count toward your total service hours.

See Bob Greene if anyone is interested or has equipment we could use for such an activity.
