Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael
Dear Parents,
My apologies for the delay in this communication. My family had a visit from the plague (OK, it was the stomach flu, but it sure seemed like the plague) immediately after Harvest Fest, and I missed last week’s Tuesday Memo.
Harvest Fest
Speaking of Harvest Fest, I want to thank Marissa Amador and everyone who helped to make this year’s event a success. Although numbers were down from prior years, we did well given the state of the economy. This doesn’t happen without the hard work of a lot of people.
I don’t want to do a recap of the event in this space, but I do want to make a special appeal. Our Fund-a-Need this year was to raise money for two important projects: chapel renovation and technology in the classrooms. Unfortunately, we fell about $10,000 short of our $25,000 goal. If you were unable to make a donation at the event, or were unable to attend, but would like to contribute toward these projects, please feel free to write a check to the school specifying “Fund-a-Need” in the memo line. As evidenced by the new playground and playing field, I take very seriously the spending of earmarked money on the project for which it has been raised. Please consider helping in this way.
Mardi Gras
It’s just one thing after another sometimes, isn’t it? Well, now that Harvest Fest is out of the way, it’s time to begin planning for Mardi Gras, scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2010. Stay tuned for a meeting announcement soon!
Sod
Due to an unexpected last-minute donation, we were able to have sod installed on the same day as Harvest Fest. Boy, does it look great! The students should be able to cavort in the grass in about a month. Many thanks to Chuck Haeuser for shepherding this process, including completely re-doing the valve boxes, overseeing the installation, and ensuring that the grass is adequately watered during this critical stage of its development.
Development Campaign
Another category of earmarked money is for our Development Campaign. We need your help to continue making improvements to the people, program and plant of the school, which the Development funds allow us to do. While the pledging to-date has been great, we do need to ramp up, as a) we still have a ways to go and b) our largest pledger has hit a snag and been delayed in beginning contributing. I know money is tight, but this campaign is critical to the long-term success of the school.
Yours in Christ,
Brian

Weekly Words from Miss Jaminet
September 29, 2009
Let me take a moment to share some success stories with you!
Our high school Girls Retreat at Sweetwater with Fr. Gregory from the Norbertine Order was a great success. The girls were respectful, responsive, prayerful, unified, AND had fun. Thank you to our chaperones, Anna Avalar, Joanne Andrego, and Susan Baldini.
1. While at Vallergas one afternoon getting my lunch, the cashier asked me where I worked and when I told him he commented about what a fantastic school we are, how polite our students are when in the store, and that when the employees watch us over the fence they notice how kindly our students treat one another, especially how helpful the older students are toward the younger students. Here is a shining example of fulfillment of part of our mission statement – to form children and young adults who will renew the world with their educational, moral, civic, and spiritual values.
2. Our “Happy New Grass” (as I’ve come to call it because it brightens my day just to gaze upon it) is thriving and the students have been very conscientious and respectful of our request to remain off the grass. All the students are enjoying the new playground. Hats off to the older students who have used good ‘ole common sense by enjoying the playground without playing on equipment that was built for smaller bodies.
3. As part of the Faith in Action program, the 11th-12th grade will be organizing a Living Rosary with the whole student body to celebrate the month of the Holy Rosary. The Living Rosary is scheduled for October 8.
A reminder that students are marked tardy after 7:45 AM. After four or more tardies, we will send home a letter to the parent(s) of the student(s) informing you of the number of tardies. After four tardies, a detention may be issued to the student – normally this is done in cases of chronic, consistent tardiness. More than 7 tardies in a quarter will keep a student off the honor roll. Thank you for your efforts to be on time!
One of the goals included in the 5 Year Strategic Plan is to formalize a student government program. I have one faculty member interested in helping with student government and would like to find a parent to also serve as an advisor. If you are interested, please call me soon.
At the Back to School Night we began surveying interest in an After School Study Hall. This would be a monitored study hall for working on homework with assistance available from an adult. This service could be provided for a small fee if we could establish enough consistent interest and attendance to pay a qualified individual. Now that your schedules have settled in to a pattern, you may have a better idea if this offer would meet a need for your family. Please contact Mrs. Williams in the office to express your interest.
Peace & Joy,
Miss Jaminet

Boys' Soccer and Girls' Volleyball Update
The Trinity Prep girls’ volleyball team made history last
Tuesday, as their three-game sweep of North Hills Christian
of Vallejo marked the Crusaders first volleyball victory of
any kind since the program was reestablished last fall.
Claudia Gutierrez’s 15 service aces led Trinity, while
teammates Marisa Streett added five kills, and Anna Arend
had three assists and three aces. The victory came in the
Crusaders Northern Pacific Athletic Conference opener. They
will continue NPAC play with a home match against Auburn
Christian this Thursday, October 1, at
This week, Bob Quinn and Company will be selling concession items at all of our home games for both volleyball and soccer; all profits go to support the Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep Athletic Program. Remember to check the “Sports” page of the school website for updated schedules.
6-8 Grade Girls' Basketball Team
We are looking to put together a girls' basketball team for grades 6-8 for the winter season. Not all of the details are finalized, but we are looking to begin practice shortly after mid-November, or early December with the girls playing around 12 games and practicing twice a week. Please see Athletic Director Bob Greene if your 6-8 grade girl is interested in playing. We are also looking for a coach, so if you, or someone you know may be interested, please contact Bob Greene.
Calling all interested 3-8 Grade Boys' Basketball Players!
Trinity Prep Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach Jesse West is hosting a meeting for all interested boys' basketball players in grades 3-8 on Monday, October 5 in the Fellowship Hall on campus at 7:00 p.m. Parents and students are invited. This meeting does not have to be limited to Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep students and families. Interested 3-8 grade boys and their parents from outside our school are encouraged to attend.
Service Hours
For many years, Allan Cravalho was kind enough, not to mention talented enough, to film many of our basketball games. This afforded our coaches the luxury of studying game film of opponents and our own team and to apply that information going forward. It also served as another way to document some of the wonderful moments of a particular year and Allan was known to put together highlight tapes at the end of the season.
Both our Girls' Basketball Coach John Streett and Boys' Basketball Coach Jesse West have inquired about finding someone with either the equipment and/or time to film games. There would be no expectation to create highlights or do anything extravagant. This would simply serve as a tool for players and coaches.
Any hours worked in this capacity would count toward your total service hours.
See Bob Greene if anyone is interested or has equipment we could use for such an activity.
