From the Principal’s Pen:
Feast of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina
Mr. Brian Muth has been home with the stomach flu. Please join us in praying for his speedy recovery and keep a lookout for a separate Principal’s Pen – Mr. Muth may choose to send his message later in the week. Thank you!
Weekly Words from Miss Jaminet
September 22, 2009
Let me take a moment to share some success stories with you!
As part of our Faith in Action program, volunteers from the upper grades student have been trained by Ron Maxson to spread the Pro Life message throughout the immediate neighborhood. Ron reports that at least two of our local community members have expressed interest in joining 40 Days for Life. All of our students will have the opportunity to participate in the next 40 Days for Life, through prayer, fasting, sacrifice, or keeping vigil in front of Planned Parenthood. At school, the 7th-12th grade began 40 Days for Life by listening to a powerful and moving presentation by Pastor Walter Hoye, a pro-life warrior from Oakland.
Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up are running smoothly – thank you to the parents who arrive early and wait with your students until the bell at 7:30 AM and to the teachers who keep their students with them until the bell. Thank you, Mrs. Williams, for hosting the students who remain after 3:10 PM. The students have been very good about helping each other with homework and promoting an appropriate atmosphere while they wait for their rides.
At the Back to School Night we began surveying interest in an After School Study Hall. This would be a monitored study hall for working on homework with assistance available from an adult. This service could be provided for a small fee if we could establish enough consistent interest and attendance to pay a qualified individual. Now that your schedules have settled in to a pattern, you may have a better idea if this offer would meet a need for your family. Please contact Mrs. Williams in the office to express your interest.
FLU & COLD SEASON is STILL upon us! Health officials are predicting a severe flu season. Please help us limit the spread of sickness by keeping your students home when they are contagious. Signs of contagion are fever, moderate to severe runny noses, moist and persistent coughing and sneezing, and vomiting. Thank you for your efforts to keep us healthy!
This Thursday afternoon begins the high school girls retreat at Sweetwater with Fr. Gregory from the Norbertine Order. Thank you to our chaperones, Anna Avalar, Joanne Andrego, and Susan Baldini. I will be accompanying the girls on the retreat as the cook thus I will be out of the office from Thursday at 1:00 until Monday. Please do not hesitate to leave me a message or an email!
What a fabulous Harvest Fest! I was amazed at the boundless energy of YOU, our parent, student, and staff volunteers. Many of you worked all day and were still smiling and enthusiastic at 11:00 PM at night. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CHEERFUL SACRIFICES.
Peace & Joy,
Nancy Jaminet

An Evening with G. K. Chesterton
Please join us for an entertaining “Evening with G. K. Chesterton” this Sunday, Sept. 27, 7:00pm at Kolbe-Trinity. Actor and Professor Dr. Chuck Chalberg, well-known from his GKC performances on TV, will perform as the great G K Chesterton, the beloved Catholic author, poet, philosopher, artist and apologist, and creator of such memorable works as The Everlasting Man, Orthodoxy, Father Brown, and many other classics. He will regale you with the wit, wisdom and brilliance of GKC on a variety of important topics. No charge for the event. Donations most welcome.
Emergency Cards
Please remember to send in your student emergency cards as soon as possible. We need to complete our records for the year and we have more field trips scheduled in the upcoming weeks. All students must have a current emergency card on file to attend any field trip.
Soccer and Volleyball Update
It's a three-game week for the boys' soccer team, which is coming off of a defeat to Global Youth Charter in the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League opener on Friday. Anthony Kersting had the lone goal in the contest for the Crusaders. Trinity will follow that up with a non-league home match against Geyserville Wednesday, September 23, also at Napa Valley College at 4 p.m. The Crusaders complete the week with another SMAL matchup at Sacramento Country Day at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 25.
Meanwhile, the girls' volleyball team has just one match this week, but it is a big one. Wednesday, September 23, the North Hills Christian Golden Eagles come to Crosswalk Community Church for our Northern Pacific Athletic Conference opener at 4 p.m.
Come out to our home matches this week and root on our boys' soccer and girls' volleyball teams!
6-8 Grade Girls' Basketball Team
We are looking to put together a girls' basketball team for grades 6-8 for the winter season. Not all of the details are finalized, but we are looking to begin practice shortly after mid-November, or early December with the girls playing around 12 games and practicing twice a week. Please see Athletic Director Bob Greene if your 6-8 grade girl is interested in playing. We are also looking for a coach, so if you, or someone you know may be interested, please contact Bob Greene.
Calling all interested 3-8 Grade Boys' Basketball Players!
Trinity Prep Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach Jesse West is hosting a meeting for all interested boys' basketball players in grades 3-8 on Monday, October 5 in the Fellowship Hall on campus at 7:00 p.m. Parents and students are invited. This meeting does not have to be limited to Kolbe Academy & Trinity Prep students and families. Interested 3-8 grade boys and their parents from outside our school are encouraged to attend.
Service Hours Opportunity! Looking for Basketball Camera Operator
For many years, Allan Cravalho was kind enough, not to mention talented enough, to film many of our basketball games. This afforded our coaches the luxury of studying game film of opponents and our own team and to apply that information going forward. It also served as another way to document some of the wonderful moments of a particular year and Allan was known to put together highlight tapes at the end of the season.
Both our Girls' Basketball Coach John Streett and Boys' Basketball Coach Jesse West have inquired about finding someone with either the equipment and/or time to film games. There would be no expectation to create highlights or do anything extravagant. This would simply serve as a tool for players and coaches.
Any hours worked in this capacity would count toward your total service hours.
See Bob Greene if anyone is interested or has equipment we could use for such an activity.
