From the Principal's Pen
Feast of St. Joseph Calasanz
Dear Parents,
Back to School Follow-up
Thank you to all who attended the Back to School Night on Friday. If you were unable to attend and would like an update, just let me know. In particular, we really need to jump start the development campaign, so if you haven't made a pledge yet, expect to hear from me soon.
Sod
We completed the last of the irrigation around the playground last Saturday, and will be re-doing the irrigation in the playing field in the next couple of weeks. I could use 4-6 people, preferably with some irrigation experience, for this Saturday, September 5. Yes, I know it's Labor Day weekend-that's why we'll be laboring. Please let me know if you can help.
However, while there is still enough in the playground budget to plant the sod around the playground, we will come up short by $2,800-$3,100 to do all the sod. Planting sod would allow the children to use the area within about a month. If we have to seed, however, it may be three months or more.
So, if you are moved to make a donation toward sod, it would make it possible for us to proceed. To date, $1,500 has been donated, so we only need $1,600 more to make new sod a reality. Please let me know ASAP if you can help, as I need to place the order soon.
When we get the sod delivered (ideally Saturday, 9/12), we will need a whole crew who can make a significant time commitment to getting the sod laid down. We have to get it in the day it is delivered, so that it doesn't rot. I will ask Toni to make phone calls to help nail down solid commitments to help.
Yours in Christ,
Brian

Fall Sports Teams Open Play
The Girls' Volleyball squad hits the road to open play this week.
The girls go to Santa Rosa Christian today (Tuesday, September 1) at
5:30 p.m. (the game will be played at Redwood Adventist School)
before heading to Calistoga for a 5:00 p.m. match on Thursday,
September 3.
The Trinity Prep Boys' Soccer team opens its season Thursday,
September 3 at Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa at 4:30 pm. The
Crusaders play back-to-back matches at Napa Christian Tuesday,
September 8 and 15 at 4:00 p.m.
Remember, the most update sports schedules can be found on the
"Sports" page of the school website (http://kolbetrinity.org/Sports.htm).
Volleyball Schedule Update
We had some fairly major changes to the volleyball schedule made late last week. An updated day-by-day practice and games schedule was sent out on the yahoo email groups. The game schedule is currently updated on the "Sports" page of the school website.
Looking for Drivers for Road Games
As is tradition (an unfortunate, but necessary tradition), we will
need parents to drive to away games once again. With the departure
of the Cravalho family to Colorado, we will be missing one of the
all-time great and reliable transporters of our student-athletes.
Our hope is that we will not have to lean on the same high school
parents over and over for this service.
If all parents of high school student-athletes would drive to at
least one game for the season of sport that their student
participates, this would be a huge help to those who drive nearly
all the time.
Look through the game schedule for girls' volleyball or boys' soccer
there are any games you would be willing and able to drive to, let
Athletic Director Bob Greene know by calling the office at (707)
258-9030.
All volunteer drivers must meet three requirements.
First, fill out the volunteer drivers form. It can be printed out off the 'Sports" page of the school website. Here is a link for your convenience http://www.kolbetrinity.org/Documents/Volunteerdriverform.pdf.
Two, provide a copy of proof of insurance that states you have liability coverage of at least $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence.
And three, a copy of your driver's license. All of this will be put on file in the main office.
Cars that can transport many people are always nice, but every
driver helps regardless of car size. For example, with Head
Volleyball Coach Nancy Nelson able to take seven people to each
game, we would not need someone with a big vehicle to take the
remaining girls that would need to make a particular trip. I
understand why this is not something that everyone loves to do, but
parental support is necessary for this and many other aspects of the
sports program to work. Again, please look at the girls' volleyball
and boys' soccer schedules and see if there are any games you would
be able to drive to. Your help
Rome Trip Fundraiser:
We did the BBQ fundraiser at the soccer tournament and it went
well. We did much better the second day with the cooler weather.
In order to drum up more business for the Labor Day weekend
tournament we are giving the teams coupons for free dessert with the
purchase of two chicken sandwiches or two hamburgers. We need
students who are going to Rome to bake cookies and brownies and wrap
them up individually for this meal deal. Please e-mail me ASAP (jbakh@yahoo.com)
to let me know what you are bringing. We have to make sure we have
enough dessert for the two days.
A big thank you to all the people who stopped by the BBQ and
purchased some wonderful lunch. We hope to see more of you this
weekend at the Raiders field (way back on the back side of Redwood
Middle School off Redwood Road). We have some great food at great
prices:
Chicken sandwich (chicken marinated in huli huli sauce) $3.00
Hamburger $2.50
Italian sausage sandwich (limited supply) $2
Hot dog $1.50
Policy Reminders:
Uniforms - We ask that all our parents read the uniform code section in the Family Handbook that went home on Back to School Night. There have been some questions regarding socks (no show, show, color) and shoes (canvas, high tops). Note that the uniform code was amended late in the summer, therefore the teachers will be reviewing uniform policy with the students and we are giving a grace period before enforcing the uniform code items that were changed. We hope to have compliance with-in the next few weeks. If you have any questions or concerns regarding what has already been purchased for your student or you‘re not sure if you are in compliance please contact the office for assistance.
Items/Lunches Drop Off:
If you need to bring lunch in after the start of school, or any other items you need to leave for your child, please bring your items to the office and leave in the box labeled for that purpose. We ask that you not make a personal delivery to the classrooms.
Tardiness:
If your child arrives to school after the 7:45 am bell please remind them to come to the office to sign in or on a day in which mass is being said (usually Mon, Wed, Fri) to sign in at the back of the chapel after leaving their backpacks outside.
Sweetwater Field Trips:
Please return the permission slips for the high school retreat as soon as possible, even if your high school student is not attending. Permission slips went out in the Back to School Night packets. There are additional copies in the office. We are in need of chaperones for both the boys and girls retreat, especially someone to cook for the boys' retreat on Sept. 10 & 11. Please call the office for an itinerary of the retreat or if you have any questions.
Emergency Cards:
Please return the emergency cards to the office as soon as possible. Remember that you need to fill out one card for each student. Extra copies are in the office.
Mass Intentions:
If you would like to offer a mass for the intention of a loved one please send in your request to the office. A mass card can be sent to the recipient of the intention. Donations that are given to the school along with the mass intention go directly to the sacristy fund and are always appreciated.
Volunteers Needed:
Thank you to everyone who signed up for jobs on Back to School Night. We still have some critical areas in which we need parent support. Help with the Faith in Action program - all grades, Yard Duty from 11:10 - 11:50 or 11:50 - 12:30 and Home Room parents for Pre K/K, 9/10 & 11/12.
Come learn more about the Tridentine Rite Latin Mass:
Fr. McNealy, a priest with the Fraternity of St. Peter in Sacramento, will be giving two sessions of a "teaching Mass" for our students. On Tuesday, September 8 at 2:10 pm he will address grades 1-6. On Tuesday, September 15, Fr. McNealy will work with grades 7-12. The Tridentine Rite is a beautiful liturgy and we hope this teaching moment will help our students better understand and more fully appreciate it. We welcome all parents to attend either of these sessions. Fr. McNealy will offer our first Tridentine Latin Mass of the year on Wednesday, September 16 at the regularly scheduled time, 7:52 AM.
