From the Principal's Pen
August 26, 2009
Feast of St. Joseph Calasanz
Dear Parents,
Thank You
My hearty thanks to all those who stepped up this last Saturday-Tuesday,
to make the campus look so great! We had incredible turnout on Saturday,
and then various people came out to help on Monday and especially
Tuesday with last minute clean up. This made for a wonderful looking
campus for the first day of school.
First Day of School
The first day of school went very smoothly. We had an official
ribbon-cutting ceremony for the playground attended by the entire
student body and two of the gentlemen from the Kiwanis Club. This was an
excellent opportunity to help the children connect with the people who
worked so hard to make the playground a reality.
Sod
We completed the majority of the irrigation around the playground, and
will be re-doing the irrigation in the playing field in the next couple
of weeks. However, while there is still enough in the playground budget
to plant the sod around the playground, we will most likely come up
short by $1,500-$2,000 to do sod on the playing field.
Planting sod on the playing field would allow the children to use the
area within about a month. If we have to seed, however, it may be three
months or more. So, if you are moved to make a donation toward sod, it
would make it much more feasible for us to proceed.
When we get the sod delivered (potentially Saturday, 9/5 or 9/12), we
will need a whole crew who can make a significant time commitment to
getting the sod laid down. We have to get the sod in the day it is
delivered, so that it doesn't rot. I will ask Toni to make phone calls
to help nail down solid commitments to help.
Back to School Night
Remember that Back to School Night is on Friday, August 28 beginning at
7:00. There have been a lot of exciting developments, but we also face
many challenges. Remember that this is a mandatory meeting-please come
out in force to stay connected with your children's school and help us
take the school to the next level.
Your School Needs You!
Remember that the absolute best, most important recruiting method we
have is YOU-your word of mouth, your positive statements, your looking
out for new recruits. If you can think of anybody who would be a good
fit at our school, of anybody who cares as much about their children's
education as you do, put in a good word for your school! Keep in mind
that we have a Pre-K/Kindergarten class and are considering offering
full day as an option (depending on interest). Send all interested
parties to Bob Greene, our salesman extraordinaire.
Yours in Christ,
Brian

School Night Refreshments
The Parents' Guild is requesting volunteers to help supply refreshments
for the Back to School meeting this Friday evening. We are in need of
four volunteers to bring baked goods and four volunteers to bring
cheese/fruit trays. One volunteer will also be needed to help the
Parents' Guild 30 minutes prior to the meeting and 30 minutes after the
meeting to help set up and clean up the hall. All volunteers will
receive one service hour for helping. Extra hands always make the work
more enjoyable! Please call Deana Muth at (707) 294-2237 if you can
help. Thank You!
Fall
Sports Teams Open Play Next Week
The Trinity Prep Boys' Soccer team scrimmaged Geyserville High this week
and will open its season Thursday, September 3 at Sonoma Academy in
Santa Rosa at 4:30 pm. The Crusaders play back-to-back matches at Napa
Christian Tuesday, September 8 and 15 at 4:00 p.m.
The Girls' Volleyball squad hits the road to open play next week. They
go to Santa Rosa Christian on Tuesday, September 1 at 5:30 p.m. (the
game will be played at Redwood Adventist School) before heading to
Calistoga for a 5:00 p.m. match on Thursday, September 3.
Remember, the most update sports schedules can be found on the "Sports"
page of the school website (http://kolbetrinity.org/Sports.htm).
Boys'
Soccer Players Needed!
Player numbers for our Boys' Soccer team are coming up a little short.
If there are any high school boys who are at all interested in playing
soccer this fall please see Athletic Director Bob Greene. We are in
danger of not being able to field a team and would really like to avoid
such a circumstance. Remember, experience is not a prerequisite.
Looking
for Drivers for Road Games
As is tradition (an unfortunate, but necessary tradition), we will need
parents to drive to away games once again. With the departure of the
Cravalho family to Colorado, we will be missing one of the all-time
great and reliable transporters of our student-athletes. Our hope is
that we will not have to lean on the same high school parents over and
over for this service.
If all parents of high school student-athletes would drive to at least
one game for the season of sport that their student participates, this
would be a huge help to those who drive nearly all the time.
Look through the game schedule for girls' volleyball or boys' soccer
(found on "Sports" page of the school website www.kolbetrinity.org) and
if there are any games you would be willing and able to drive to, let
Athletic Director Bob Greene know by calling the office at (707)
258-9030.
All volunteer drivers must meet three requirements.
First, fill out the volunteer drivers form. It can be printed out off the 'Sports" page of the school website. Here is a link for your convenience http://www.kolbetrinity.org/Documents/Volunteerdriverform.pdf.
Two, provide a copy of proof of insurance that states you have liability coverage of at least $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence.
And three, a copy of your driver's license. All of this will be put on file in the main office.
Cars that can transport many people are always nice, but every driver
helps regardless of car size. For example, with Head Volleyball Coach
Nancy Nelson able to take seven people to each game, we would not need
someone with a big vehicle to take the remaining girls that would need
to make a particular trip. I understand why this is not something
that everyone loves to do, but parental support is necessary for this
and many other aspects of the sports program to work. Again, please look
at the girls' volleyball and boys' soccer schedules and see if there are
any games you would be able to drive to. Your help is greatly
appreciated.
Needed
Items for Harvest Fest
Marissa Amador is putting out a call for anyone who has a "lazy susan"
they could loan for holding platters of food at the Harvest Fest event.
If you can help, please contact Marissa at 707-483-5292. Remember
every family must get their donation of a bottle of wine worth at least
$20 for the wine raffle, as well as $200 cash or a auction item valued
at $200 or more for the live/silent auction tables. Please bring these
items to the office as soon as possible.
See you at
Back to School Night!
